Busy busy busy

I feel like I haven't had a free second to catch my breath. Between classes, Kappa, work and miscellaneous life events, I'm exhausted ... just in time for the start of the fourth week of classes.

I've decided that I'm going to get an iPhone ... the phone I have now doesn't charge right and its getting old. Its also about the fourth phone I've gone through in a year. I've heard all good things about the iPhone and I'm excited to get it. But I'm going to wait until my next paycheck so I'm not completely broke after.

Another post about alarm clocks

I never imagined I would devote one post to an alarm clock and my battle with it, much less two in one day. Last week I decided it was time for me to get an alarm clock that was compatible with my iPod. It would be nice to have something besides my computer to play my music without having to listen through my headphones, in addition to upgrading my alarm clock.

I ordered an iSound Time Travel from kohls.com and just got it in the mail today (I am an avid online shopper, its one of my greatest weaknesses). I just finished setting everything up and was reading the directions of how to set the alarm. That is where I found the following sentence: " The Alarm Function will only work if the unit is in Power Off state (i.e. Power LED turns off). It will not work if iPod or AUX IN is playing."

This, to say the least, is extremely disappointing. I enjoy falling asleep to either (a) light music, or (b) medatation from My Thought Coach (which will have to be a completely different topic). I was looking forward to something that would allow me to play both my iPod playlists and work as an alarm clock. But instead, I will now have two alarm clocks sitting on my window sill, one of which will act as an alarm clock and the other to play my iPod. But I guess thats how it goes!

A battle of the wills

My alarm clock and I are fighting. It should really learn some manners ... as in how to not interrupt my sound sleep. And when I reach for that snooze button four times, I should be allowed to resume that sound sleep that rarely occurs.

I am trying to wake up early to work out, however my bed was just a little too comfortable this morning. I really did try, but it was just not happening. That means I will just have to do it tonight before I collapse after yet another 14 hour day.

A morning update (mostly about the 3 day)

I have continued to think about the 3 day all night, and will give some quick background information for anyone who may not know about it. The 3 day is a 60 mile walk for the Susan B Komen Foundation to support Breast Cancer research. While I have no one I am close to has ever been diagnosed with Breast Cancer, I don't ever want that to happen either, which is why I am willing to walk this.

One of my good friends, Melanie, is actively involved in cancer awareness and I knew that this would be something that she would also be interested in. When I contacted her, she had already signed up to participate. There is going to be a walk in Cleveland July 31-August 2. I am getting paid on Friday, and am planning on registering over the weekend.

I do, however have two major hurdles that I will have to overcome in order to participate in the 3 day. The first one is the physical demand of walking 60 miles in 3 days. As someone who is not in the best of shape, this is going to be a challenge for me. I decided last night to start working out, and have actually had two work out sessions since then. Once I actually register for the event, they give you a training program, and I am going to try and stick to that religiously.

The other hurdle is the financial aspect. In order to participate in the 3 day, they ask that you raise at least $2,300 per participant. I have never raised that type of money before, especially for something like this, and I would be extremely nervous that I wouldn't meet my goal and would not be able to walk. But these are both challenges I am going to have to think about over the next week before I register.

So many ideas, so little time

I suppose a blog should start out with an introduction about myself. My name is Amanda, and I am a twenty year old sophomore at the University of Akron studying Psychology, with minors in Child and Family Development. I am originally from Erie, PA and have a younger sister that I am very close with. I am an active member of a sorority, Kappa Kappa Gamma, and I work two jobs, while going to school full time.

I have been an avid blog reader of some family and friends, however I have just now decided to start one of my own. I don't really have a lot of "me time" so I've decided to create this blog to give me a place for that much needed "me time". It is a place for me to breathe and to not have to worry about anything or anyone else.

I am a spontaneous and goal oriented person. Over the past week, I have had probably five different ideas come into my mind of things I would like to do within the next couple of years. These plans include the 3 day walk over summer and a volunteer trip to Kenya to teach in an orphanage when I graduate with my sister. And those are the big goals. We then have the little things I am planning to do; volunteering at Camp Quality this summer, working out more, trying to figure out my field experience for next year. It amazes me that my head is still on straight.
